for Airlie Beach Race Week!
Ocean Crusaders are joining forces to bring energy, purpose, and a passion for the ocean to this iconic event. As long-time advocates for cleaner seas and community-driven action, we’re excited to contribute to the vibrant sailing culture of Airlie Beach and support the incredible work of the Club in hosting one of Australia’s premier regattas.
Here’s how you can help:
WASTE STATIONS
Recycle right! Ocean Crusaders have donated 3 waste stations. You can help by placing your 10c containers in the bags we’ve provided & then depositing them in the right bin at one of these stations.
All 10c proceeds go to support WSC junior sailing & Ocean Crusaders
LAYDAY CLEANUP
This is your chance to give back to the waterways that we race & cruise on. Join Ocean Crusaders, Whitsunday Sailing Club & Ocean Rafting for a FREE fun day out cleaning the beaches & Islands north of our Race Course.
When
Monday 11th August
Time
8.30am to 1pm
Location
We will meet at the Whitsunday Sailing Club lawn “Festival Village”. Vessels will then depart from the dinghy jetty. Event concludes at 1pm with a free BBQ for all attendees at the Festival Village.
What to expect/bring
You will enjoy a high speed trip out to the islands north of Airlie Beach with Ocean Rafting. We will then land on a few beaches, armed with rubbish bags and a sense of adventure to collect all the rubbish & debris that we can. All the rubbish will be loaded on our work barge, “Salter” & returned to the mainland.
Make sure you bring along sun protection, close toe shoes (ideal for getting wet as well), plenty of water & a snack. We will provide the bags & gloves.
PELLI BAGS FLOTILLA
Heading south after HIRW? Bring your boat, crew & a sense of adventure as we start our flotilla cleanups at Shaw Island & then continue the beaches as we head further South.
Join for a day, join for the whole week – every little bit helps! Don’t forget that we will have nightly sundowners compliments of 74 Islands Distillery.

Sunday 24th – 31st August
Where
We will start at Shaw Island on Sunday 24th. From there we will proceed to head South & clean the islands further South. If you are joining us midway & would like to know where we are, please call “J-Bird III” on VHF 16.
