Over 1.4 billion units of new clothing come onto the Australian market each year, and over 200,000 tonnes of clothing end up in landfills around Australia every year – this is almost four times the weight of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Buying less fast fashion from cheap online stores, and more quality clothing from local manufacturers will save our planet

Plastic Bottles

Australians buy around 15 billion plastic bottles each year. 

• Around 373 million plastic water bottles are thrown away each year. 
• Only about 36% of these bottles are recycled. 
• The majority of the remaining bottles end up in landfills or the ocean. 
• About 600 million plastic bottles end up in the ocean each year.

Coffee Cups

• Australians use around one billion disposable coffee cups each year
• This is one of the most used single-use plastics in Australia
• Many of these cups end up in landfills or as litter, where they break down into microplastics that harm wildlife and marine ecosystems
